John Terry mocks Leeds United with 'spy' celebration after play-off loss to Derby

Aston Villa coach John Terry mocked Leeds United by replicating Derby County's 'Spygate' celebration from their Championship play-off semi-final on Tuesday.

Frank Lampard's side recovered from a 1-0 first-leg deficit to beat Marcelo Bielsa's side 4-2 at Elland Road, securing a 4-3 win on aggregate and booking a trip to Wembley.

Substitute Jack Marriott scored two goals, including the winner five minutes from time, to set up a meeting with Aston Villa on May 27 for a place in the Premier League.

The victory was a particularly sweet one for the Rams following the January 'Spygate' controversy, which saw Leeds manager Bielsa admit to sending a member of staff to observe Derby's training sessions before the two sides met in the league.

The incident resulted in the Argentinian revealing he had sent people to spy on all of Leeds' opponents this year and the club being fined £200,000 by the EFL.

Ahead of the play-off final, Villa assistant manager Terry, who will come up against former Chelsea team-mate Lampard at Wembley, shared a joke with Derby coach Jody Morris which appeared to mock the incident.

Morris - another of Terry's old Chelsea team-mates - posted a video of the former England captain to his Instagram story in which he jokes: "We've got another spy in the camp."

In response to the claim, Terry can be seen miming the wearing of a pair of binoculars in reference to the scandal.

It is the same gesture several Derby players made in front of their fans as they celebrated their victory at Elland Road.

The celebration was also copied by Rams boss Lampard in the changing room after the final whistle, with the 40-year-old also singing a song Leeds fans had devised to mock him - to the tune of Oasis' 'Stop Crying Your Heart Out'.

After the match, Lampard admitted that the win was made sweeter by the fact it was against Bielsa's side.

"Maybe, maybe. I'm not gonna lie maybe it is," he told Sky Sports.

"I heard a lot of people saying that we were crying about Spygate but I haven't thought about Spygate for a long time.

"We played them, we prepared, and we got a result."
