John Terry hits back at Piers Morgan's "pathetic" anti-vax footballer dig

John Terry has slammed Piers Morgan’s “shocking” suggestion that unvaccinated players shouldn’t be treated for injuries.

The row regarding the coronavirus vaccine has returned this week in the midst of a raft of Premier League postponements.

In total, six of the ten top-flight games this weekend have been cancelled, with clubs up and down the country feeling the impact of the spread of the omicron variant.

The Premier League hasn’t confirmed the total number of players to be double jabbed and boosted, although the EFL suggested 4 in 10 had not been fully vaccinated.

Arsenal ’s win over Leeds was the only game to go ahead on Saturday and Gunners fan Morgan offered his own thoughts on the ongoing crisis.

He posted on Twitter : “Footballers who refuse to be jabbed should be refused treatment for injuries.

“After all, why should they trust doctors about treatment for broken legs & torn ligaments if they don’t trust them about a life-saving vaccine?”

Chelsea legend John Terry quickly responded to Morgan branding his statement as “shocking”.

Morgan continued the debate, by Quote Tweeting Terry’s reply with: “Why? Footballers get jabbed with stuff all the time, why are they being so pathetic about Covid vaccines when so much is at stake?

“The really shocking thing is that UK footballers are massively less vaccinated against covid than their European counterparts. It’s insane.”

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has arguably been the most public Premier League boss to offer his thoughts on the jab, urging fans and players to ignore misinformation.

"My message around this has always been simple and clear, I hope: I trust experts,” he said in his programme notes in midweek.

Chelsea legend John Terry hit back at Morgan's comments (Sky Sports)

"I follow the advice of smart, educated people who know their field because they’ve dedicated their lives to it and have studied it.

"We are clearly moving back to stricter measures around the team environment and at LFC we are absolutely OK with that.

"As I have spoken about before, we have a very high take-up of the vaccine at our club and have done for a long time. It might be 100 per cent now or as close as is possible, so that’s important.

"I have no issue telling you I received my booster jab as soon as I was eligible and again that will be the case for many if not nearly all within our ranks in the coming days and weeks."
