John Terry delivers 'quality' three-word verdict to Everton after Conor Coady transfer

Former Chelsea and England captain John Terry has labelled Everton's signing of Conor Coady as 'quality' following the defender's season-long switch to Goodison Park.

Coady, a native of Merseyside, completed a season-long loan on Monday evening as the two Premier League clubs agreed on a deal which would see the defender join the Blues on an initial loan basis, with the option of making it permanent next summer.

The 29-year-old, who is a product of Liverpool's Kirkby academy, spent seven years in the Midlands, captaining the side back to the Premier League and into the quarter-finals of the 2019/20 Europa League.

However, in a bid to receive more game time ahead of this winter's World Cup in Qatar, Coady has decided to leave Molineux and join Frank Lampard's ranks.

It comes as a timely boost for the Blues as defender Ben Godfrey is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a fractured fibula in Saturday's slender defeat to Chelsea and is expected to spend roughly three months on the sidelines. Meanwhile, his colleague Yerry Mina is expected to join him on the sidelines, however the extent of ankle ligament damage he suffered in the same fixture is yet to be revealed as he will see a specialist later in the week.

And the Toffees' swift move to sign the ten-cap England international has been approved by former Chelsea and England captain Terry, who has labelled his addition to the Everton ranks as a 'top signing'.

"Top signing this," tweeted the former Aston Villa assistant manager. He added: "Conor Coady & James Tarkowski give so much experience and quality to this Everton team."

Of course, James Tarkowski made the move to Goodison Park at the start of last month following the expiration of his Burnley contract, which ended his six-year stay at Turf Moor as the Clarets were relegated to the Championship.

The former Burnley stalwart made his Premier League debut for the Toffees on Saturday evening as Lampard's men were defeated 1-0 by his former club thanks to a Jorginho penalty late in the first half.

Next up for Everton is a trip to Aston Villa on Saturday lunchtime, which could be the first glimpse Evertonians catch of Tarkowski and Coady lining up alongside one another.
