John Terry: Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa showed Maurizio Sarri a lack of 'respect'

Chelsea legend John Terry accused goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga of showing manager Maurizio Sarri a lack of respect after he refused to be substituted in the EFL Cup final defeat to Manchester City.

Sarri wanted to introduce reserve goalkeeper Willy Caballero late in extra time after Kepa required treatment for an injury.

However, with Caballero stripped and waiting to come on, Kepa refused to leave the field, sparking an ugly standoff and leaving Sarri incensed.

The Spaniard eventually stayed on to keep goal in the penalty shootout, saving from Leroy Sane but allowing Sergio Aguero’s effort to squeeze through his hands as City won 4-3 on spot kicks after 120 goalless minutes.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Terry said: “Once your number goes up you have to come off and show a bit of respect.

“Deal with that after. That’s the last thing the players want.

“It's a cloud over the Chelsea performance after they played and performed so well.”
