Former Chelsea defender John Terry believes Gareth Southgate has made the right decision in selecting Kieran Trippier at right-back for England's World Cup opener against Iran.
The Newcastle United full-back has been selected ahead of Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold for the game against Iran.
Had Kyle Walker been fit, it could have been a different story entirely. However, the reality is Trippier's recent excellent form for Newcastle has earned him a starting berth in Qatar.

While England have opted to play a back four against Iran, it will be interesting to see whether they opt to move to a back three with wing-backs upon Walker's recovery.
A return to the starting line-up for Walker would likely see Trippier given more freedom to attack at right wing-back.
And speaking in his role as a pundit for BeIN Sports, Terry feels starting Trippier is the right call for Southgate to make.
"At right-back? I would play Trippier," said Terry.
"I wouldn’t go three at the back. I personally don’t like three at the back. I can see why he goes with three. The thing that disappoints me is the two in front of that. I think Declan Rice is so good. I think he can play that position on his own."
