Heartbroken Education Secretary John Swinney has told how his mum died at the start of lockdown.
The Deputy First Minister also spoke of his wish to see his dad again as he urged the country to adhere to guidelines as restrictions are eased.
Mr Swinney was able to console his dad at his mum’s funeral at the end of March - the last time they saw each other face-to-face.
"My mum died just at the beginning of lockdown,” Mr Swinney told the BBC.
"And I’ve not seen my dad since we went to my mum’s funeral at the end of March.
“I’m desperate to sit in my dad’s garden and see him face to face.
“But everybody has had to face up to these difficulties as we’ve wrestled with lockdown.
"And people have been really really good, and we’re just asking them to stick with it for a bit longer.”
Nicola Sturgeon confirmed yesterday that lockdown restrictions in Scotland will be officially eased today - but stressed Scots must use their common sense.
The First Minister handed the country a welcome boost ahead of the weekend by announcing households will be free to meet one other as long as they are outdoors and stay two metres apart.
As the nation basks in balmy weather, Scots will be free to sunbathe in public spaces and sit in parks as of Friday.
But the SNP leader reminded Scots that the battle against Covid-19 is yet to be won and urged the public to stay safe by following strict social distancing rules.
"You will be able from tomorrow to sit in parks or open areas - I'm sure that will be welcomed by many, particularly in this weather," Sturgeon said at her daily media briefing.
