John Stones told how to turn Man City career around after Tottenham sign

John Stones has been advised to seek help from a sports psychologist to turn his Manchester City career around.

Stones has played in less than half of City's games across all competitions this season and is below Nicolas Otamendi and auxiliary centre-back Fernandinho in Pep Guardiola's defensive pecking order.

The 25-year-old was left out of City's last two Premier League squads after struggling in the 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace last month.

And former City player Trevor Sinclair has told Stones how he can improve his form for the Blues.

“John needs to refocus his career. If I was advising him I’d tell him to get some help from a sports psychologist,” Sinclair told talkSPORT.

“At the moment it looks like he doesn’t have a future, or the future we expected, at Manchester City. He’s got to try and get himself back on the right path.”

Sinclair added: “The fact that [Aymeric] Laporte hasn’t been available this season and Stones still hasn’t featured much sends alarm bells ringing for me.

“But even more telling is that the youngster Eric Garcia was on the bench at Tottenham. He’s a very good young player, but he doesn’t have the experience that Stones possesses.

“I like him, don’t get me wrong, but the fact he was chosen ahead of John Stones for such a big game speaks volumes for me."
