John Stones insists Man City are "confident" of making "history" vs PSG

John Stones says Manchester City's players are confident they can reach the Champions League final and “make history” for the club.

Pep Guardiola's side lead Paris St Germain 2-1 from last week's first leg, with Stones confident City can get the job done tomorrow at the Etihad Stadium and reach the final for the first time.

“I think we're quietly confident,” said Stones. “We have to be. It ' a big occasion for us, for the club, a chance to get into the final of a Champions League.

“It was a great result away from Paris, with two away goals, so we're really confident and excited for the challenge ahead.

“We have to be confident in ourselves and our ability to do it again.

“I don’t even want to think about losing. We're going into the game to win it.

“That's been our mindset over the past five years that I've been here, being who we are, playing the way we do and, if it doesn’t work out, we can hold our heads high knowing we've given everything.

“But I'm very confident in the lads and their ability and desire and what they can do, and I'm confident we can make the next step in our history.”

England defender Stones said City's three successive quarter-final exits have made them even more determined not to fall short in the competition this season.

“I do think all those things that have happened have made us a stronger team,” said Stones.

“The disappointment of getting knocked out in harsh circumstances is hard to take and something we've had to use as fuel to go and motivate us to make that next step, which is to win the Champions League.

“This season we have a great opportunity to get into the final, which hopefully we can do. We have to try to use those emotions of disappointment to motivate us to do better.

“The character we show on the pitch is something that is really pleasing to be a part of and see first-hand when you're on the pitch.

“Hopefully we can make positive steps forward and make history.”
