John Stones hails Man City teammate Phil Foden and issues exciting prediction

Manchester City defender John Stones has hailed teammate and compatriot Phil Foden, admitting he is a big fan of the young midfielder.

The pair both featured from the start for England in the opening group stage match of Euro 2020, with Raheem Sterling scoring the only goal of the game against Croatia.

Foden caught the eye with his performance, having come close to opening the scoring with just minutes on the clock with a curling effort with his left foot that bounced back off the post.

The 21-year-old is backed to become a standout star for the Three Lions at the European Championship and Stones has predicted he will become better and better in the coming years.

“It's difficult when you play with someone and you're a big fan of theirs which I am of Phil Foden’s and I see what a huge talent he is. You only want the best," he told UEFA.

"It's been incredible playing with him this season. We've seen him blossom and grow into a man.

"He's 21 now, he's had an incredible season, and rightly so because of his own hard work and ability and raw talent which comes from within. I think he's only going to get better and better and I’m excited to see that happen."

Foden earned his seventh cap for England in the victory against Croatia and he's looking to net his first goal at a major tournament for England.

The Three Lions face Scotland on Friday, before bringing the group stages to a close against the Czech Republic.

Expectations are high for Gareth Southgate's side following the campaign at the World Cup three years ago, where England reached the semi-finals.
