John Stamos' bold front door color is on trend for 2024 – and experts say it has eternal benefits for our curb appeal

John Stamos.

The home associated most with John Stamos is undoubtedly the San Francisco townhouse seen between 1987 and 1995 on the hit sitcom, Full House. This house is unmistakable not for its bold facade but its lack thereof – it's a typical American home. However, Uncle Jesse (AKA Stamos) has a bit more bite with a bold front door color, which just so happens to boost its curb appeal.

The actor, who has also starred in the Full House revival, Fuller House, as well as General Hospital and You, posted a photo in front of his home on Instagram, and his red-painted front door color immediately caught our attention.

Painted doors act as first impressions of a home; they are one of the first elements visitors see, and as such, their significance cannot be undermined. However, experts say that red is one of the top door trends for 2024, as it can elevate a home's worth.

A timeless choice, a bold red front door exudes warmth and welcomes guests with a sense of energy and excitement,' says Victoria Holly, principal and founder of Victoria Holly Interiors. 'It also pairs beautifully with neutral exterior colors, creating a striking contrast that draws attention to your entryway.'

While Stamos has opted for a rusty red hue, bright cherries, and crisp vermilions will also do the trick. It's a matter of preference and existing aesthetics within the home that will determine color choice.

'Some specific paint color recommendations include Benjamin Moore's Heritage Red or Benjamin Moore's Million Dollar Red,' Holly states.

Apart from considering an interior's color palette, the exterior is the ultimate determining factor for red color selection – while many exterior elements are neutral, ensure that they are still complementary against a chosen red.

'It’s vital to consider the existing color palette of your home, including eaves trim, shutters, and gutters,' Holly explains. 'Avoid colors that clash with these elements. Instead, opt for complementary or harmonizing shades to create a cohesive look.'

Bold colors in general are recommended, so even if red is not a preferred shade, when pondering front door color ideas a bright shade is bound to boost retail value.

'I love painting the front door a strong color to set it apart from the rest of the doors in the home to really make a statement,' says Lauren Lerner, founder and CEO of Living with Lolo. 'I would avoid painting your front door white so it doesn't feel like just another bedroom door in the home.'
