Rangers have signed John Souttar on a pre-contract from Hearts.
The Jambos defender will join the Light Blues in the summer upon the expiry of his deal at Tynecastle.
However, the Gers are looking to do a deal for the 25-year-old before the end of the January transfer window as they look to seal his switch to Ibrox now.
The Scotland international has been a top performer for the Jambos this season as they sit third in the Premiership table.
His form caught the eye of the Govan club and boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst who moved to add the centre-half to his ranks.
On the capture of the former Dundee United man, Rangers sporting director Ross Wilson told the club's official website: "We are really looking forward to John joining Rangers and continuing his development under Gio, our coaching and support staff.
"John is a full Scotland international and has so much potential ahead for the coming years.
"I have really enjoyed getting to know John across all of our conversations so far and I can see how excited he and his family are to be joining Rangers.
"We are equally excited to welcome John to Ibrox."
Hearts, meanwhile, are standing firm over a transfer happening in the winter window.
In a statement on their own website, the Gorgie club said: "Heart of Midlothian Football Club notes Rangers Football Club’s announcement of John Souttar’s pre-contract signing.
"The club reiterates that John is an important member of the first-team squad and will remain so until the end of the season unless a significant and satisfactory offer is made during the January transfer window.
"No further comment will be made at this time."
