John Souttar sends Hearts fan message after defender makes shock Alloa return

Delighted John Souttar has thanked Hearts fans for their support through his injury hell.

The defender made his first start for the Jambos in over a year as he cruised through the 6-0 rout of Alloa.

The Scotland cap underwent surgery on the Achilles issue last August after suffering a relapse of the injury that originally occurred back in February.

It has been a year of hell for the 24-year-old, who was forced off during the Jambos’ opening game of the 2019/20 season and wasn’t seen again until January 2020.

Just weeks after making his comeback, Souttar limped off just 15 minutes of the Tynecastle side’s 1-0 Scottish Cup quarter-final victory over Rangers less than a month later.

It was a much happier return for the centre-back this time around as the win over the Wasps puts Robbie Neilson 's men on the brink of the seal the Championship title.

Souttar took to Instagram to thank supporters: "What a long long 405 days that was.

"Incredible feeling to be back playing football. Thanks for all the messages it’s much appreciated."

Hearts could be crowned champions today should Dundee and Raith Rovers both fail to win their games.
