John Souttar 'passes' Rangers medical as Hearts star set to seal Ibrox transfer

Rangers are on the brink of signing John Souttar on a pre-contract deal, according to a report.

Souttar is out of contract at Hearts in the summer and has had plenty of offers from clubs down south.

It initially appeared he favoured a switch to England but Record Sport revealed that an approach from Ibrox had turned his head.

Souttar narrowed his options down to three clubs with Blackburn and Sheffield United joining Gio van Bronckhorst 's team in the hunt.

But in recent days it has emerged that Rangers are his preferred destination. Now, the Glasgow Times say he is on the brink of sealing the move and has even passed his medical with the Premiership champions.

He is expected to pen a pre-contract agreement ahead of a summer move although it's understood Souttar would prefer to leave Hearts in January if possible.

Rangers could thrash out talks with Hearts to bring the deal forward but Jambos boss Robbie Neilson insists it would take a "crazy" offer for Souttar to leave now.

Souttar could arrive at Ibrox as a replacement for Connor Goldson who looks increasingly set to walk away when his contract expires.

And his arrival solves a major problem for Van Bronckhorst who can now focus his attentions on other positions.
