John Ross explains why he changed jersey numbers

It is all about new vibes for Cincinnati Bengals wideout John Ross.

Ross hasn’t been shy about showing off his new No. 11 this offseason. And since the change occurred, it always felt like it was something of a reset for the embattled wideout, who had a rocky start to his NFL career.

He confirmed this recently during a sitdown with Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic:

“I felt like, this is my third year, I get a chance to reinvent myself and re-create some of the old me,” Ross said. “I kind of wanted to basically start everything over. I get to put Ross III on the back of my jersey and get to change the number. Hopefully, just change the whole year.”

The writeup confirms Ross was stuck with No. 15 during OTAs because he hadn’t completed the process of buying up all his old jerseys. The number and nameplate change is official, but it takes a long time to jump through the loopholes before he can actually wear it.

While Ross is getting back to his roots with the number, he’s also getting back to basics with a reset of sorts thanks to a new coaching staff. The hope seems to be the offensive-minded staff can help get the most out of his skill set as he heads into his third year.
