John Ross dealing with hamstring tightness to start Bengals training camp

A.J. Green wasn’t the only Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver dealing with an injury to start off the first training camp practice of the Zac Taylor era.

Elsewhere, John Ross was notably off the field with what turned out to be tightness in a hamstring, according to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com:

The third wide receiver, John Ross arrived at PBS Saturday morning with hamstring tightness and while Taylor said it’s not a long-term injury, he may not be back until next week.

Jay Morrison of The Athletic caught up with Taylor on the topic: “Some of those guys that we expect to go full speed, if they don’t feel like a million bucks, it’s easier to ease off them a little bit.”

This is merely the latest hurdle for Ross, no matter how small. In June, he was cleared but mostly working through individual drills in practices.

Ross played in 13 games last year and scored seven times as a weapon near the goal line, yet the hope was he’d be more active this offseason while benefiting from the arrival of an offensive-minded head coach.

If Green is truly out for most of training camp at best, the Bengals would ideally love to turn Ross loose and feature him in the passing attack. But Taylor will have to be comfortable enough with Ross’ status to get him on the field working full speed as the weeks progress.
