John Robertson should be Hearts' number one choice to replace Daniel Stendel says Sky Sports pundit

Andy Walker believes Hearts should make John Robertson their number one managerial target should Daniel Stendel not return.

The German has a break clause in his contract in the event of relegation, which could finally be completely confirmed if Ann Budge’s league reconstruction proposal is rejected by the other SPFL clubs.

Stendel’s contract was only valid for next season had Hearts remained in the top flight, and any offer to lead Hearts in the Championship would likely be on reduced terms.

Jambos legend Robertson had Inverness Caledonian Thistle second in the table before the season ground to a halt, and would likely be a popular choice amongst the clubs fans.

The record goalscorer has already said he has “unfinished business” at Tynecastle after a previous stint in charge 15 years ago lasted just six months after Vladimir Romanov assumed control of the club.

And Sky pundit Walker believes he’d be the obvious choice this time around to lead Hearts back to the top flight.

“There's no doubt in my mind that John Robertson should be the number one target to revive Hearts and bring them back to the top flight,” he told Sky Sports.

He knows the club inside-out. I can't think of anyone more popular than him as a former player and, crucially, he knows the Championship and the players who operate there.

“The supporters would also give him more time than most to get it right. They'll need it.”
