John Robertson in Hearts 'never say never' return tease as Jambos hero certain he'd be better second time around

Inverness boss John Robertson has refused to rule out replacing Daniel Stendel in the Hearts dugout this summer.

A clause in Stendel’s contract is understood to allow both the German and the club to terminate his deal should the Gorgie outfit be relegated from the Premiership.

Hearts, four points adrift at the basement, are facing that fate after the SPFL were given the power to “call” the league as things stand due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Owner Ann Budge is fighting for league reconstruction in a bid to save her club and the move could also benefit Jambos legend Robertson and Caley, who finished second in the curtailed Championship and would be promoted to a new-look 14-team top-flight.

Robertson first spell as Hearts manager was brought to a sudden end after six months when Vladimir Romanov swept to power in May 2005.

The 55-year-old said: “With my experience now do I think I could do a better job? Absolutely.

“But my job right now is Inverness and I don’t want to disrespect the Inverness fans and or my boss. I’m totally focused on this club but it’s like anything else, you can never say never.”
