John Reid, the Glaswegian vocalist best known as the voice behind 90s dance anthem Push the Feeling On, has died aged 61.
The DJ, producer and songwriter rose to fame as the frontman of Nightcrawlers, whose 1992 single became a club classic and was later remixed to global success.
Reid went on to enjoy an acclaimed career as a songwriter, co-writing hits including Tina Turner's When the Heartache Is Over, Westlife’s UK No.1 Unbreakable, and A Moment Like This, recorded by both Leona Lewis and Kelly Clarkson.
Tributes have poured in for the artist, who was also known for his work with Simon Cowell, Rod Stewart, and Eternal, among others.
TFX singer Mary Kiani, who was engaged to Reid for nine years, paid an emotional tribute on social media.
The 56-year-old singer did not disclose a cause of death but reflected on their relationship, which unfolded during the height of the 90s dance music scene.

She wrote “Just heard this morning that my first love John Reid died suddenly.
“We met in Glasgow but fell in love in London. He was recording his album with Roy Hay (Culture Club) for his new band “This way up”. Myself and Danusia DanooshaZaremba were on tour, and every night we met at the Columbian hotel.
“We bought our first flat in Dennistoun age 21 & 22. We were both doing great with our music. The birth of The Nightcrawlers happened (Push the feeling on). We toured, we recorded, we did our vocal sessions together.”
She added they reconnected last year in Glasgow after decades apart.
“We parted 9 years later. Last year, I got in touch with him. I said I’d love to say hello again before one of us dies. I saw him just last year in Glasgow. RIP John, Love Bubbs xoXO.”
Singer Chris Judge, known for his work with Susan Boyle and Celtic rock band Red Hot Chilli Pipers, also shared his memories: “RIP John Reid, an incredible Scottish singer with so much soul most famous for his vocals in the Nightcrawlers hit push the feeling on ..”

He highlighted Reid's influence beyond his own recordings: “It's been sampled so many times Pitbull, the Friday song by Riton Mufasa & Hypeman etc he was also an extremely talented topline writer.”
Adding: “I remember him from doing road shows all over the country .. back when I was in the boy band days he was always such a nice guy very encouraging and supportive to all the new bands .. he had so much success as a writer but it was his voice I loved he was an incredible singer and well respected like Mary in the session scene doing all the backing vocals working for people like Ian Levine.
“Sending love to my besty Mary Kiani you guys were the OG Session singers of the 90s l’ve loved hearing your story’s Sjo Big hugs xxx”.
Over the years, the Glasgow-born musician penned tracks for acts including Eternal, Gemini, and Claire Richards, but it was his 90s anthem with Nightcrawlers that became his defining hit.
Push The Feeling On topped the UK dance chart and went on to become a global smash, reaching the top 10 across Europe and peaking at number three in the UK.
