John Pemberton says Notts County goalkeeper Ross Fitzsimons is desperate to return to Chesterfield and claims deal is close

Chesterfield manager John Pemberton claims he is close to re-signing Ross Fitzsimons on loan again from Notts County and says the goalkeeper is “desperate” to return to the Pro Act.

Fitzsimons was recalled to Meadow Lane  last Friday just a week after he had signed for the Spireites on a deal until the end of the season after Sam Slocombe suffered an injury in training.

But ahead of the clash between the two sides this weekend, Chesterfield’s caretaker boss Pemberton says he is hoping the former Crystal Palace goalkeeper will soon be back under his command.

He claims he is on the verge of a deal to take him back to the club, but it will only happen if  Notts waive their right to a  24-hour recall.

“I am hoping that we can get him back - that is a big possibility,” he told the Derbyshire Times.

“Ross is desperate to come back and we are desperate to have him back and hopefully we can get that finalised.

“It does not make any difference for this weekend because we could not use him anyway.

“I don’t want to take him unless they (County) can cancel the 24-hour callback so if they don’t do that I won’t be taking him. I have already told them that.

“Hopefully it should all get finalised by the end of this week.”
