John Patrick Kierans comment: Fianna Fail should hang heads in shame for abstaining and keeping delusional Eoghan Murphy in power

Hapless Housing Minister Eoghan Murphy seems to become more and more delusional as time goes by.

When he took over in June 2017, there were 7,941 people in emergency accommodation, a number which has now risen to 10,514, according to latest figures released last night.

But as the Irish Mirror reported last month, the number of people without homes is really closer to 15,000.

With 3,826 children currently in emergency accommodation, our failing minister had the audacity to go on national radio yesterday morning and try to spin his way out of a no-confidence vote.

Defending Fine Gael’s completely redundant Rebuilding Ireland plan, he told how 12,000 people have exited homelessness since he took over.

Despite admitting that there has been an increase in those entering emergency accommodation, he still doesn’t seem to see that the latter outweighs the former.

Fianna Fail leader Micheal Martin (Gareth Chaney/Collins)

Murphy is arguable the worst minister we have ever had in Government and that’s saying a lot.

But the blame doesn’t end with him.

Fianna Fail should hang their heads in shame for abstaining to vote and keeping him in the job.

I’m not one to lump praise on to Sinn Fein , but Eoin O Broin was spot on when he asked Micheal Martin if he was on the side of homeless children or Deputy Murphy.

Fianna Fail abstaining gave a clear answer and I’m sure the electorate will remember it when we go to the polls next spring, if not earlier.
