John Oliver has attacked US president Donald Trump again for his handling of the coronavirus pandemic, calling him an “indescribable d***”.
Speaking on his HBO comedy series Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, the comedian also highlighted Trump’s inappropriate response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Trump had responded to the news that the US might suffer up to 200,000 deaths as a result of the pandemic by claiming that “we all together have done a very good job”.
“Setting aside the fact that leading disease forecasters are mystified at how Trump got to those figures, trying to spin 200,000 deaths as a good job because it’s not millions, is the most callous way to minimise the deaths of Americans imaginable,” said the talk show host.
He added: “Were it not for the fact that Trump responded to 9/11 – on 9/11 – by pointing out that he used to own the second-tallest building in downtown Manhattan, and now he owns the tallest.”
“The thing is, that wasn’t just offensive: it wasn’t even true. #NeverForget #ThatOurPresidentIsAnIndescribableD***.”
Oliver has been an outspoken critic of the president’s handling of the coronavirus crisis, having previously called his speeches “a complete mess”, and accused him of having “stage envy”.
