John O'Shea gives transfer verdict on Man United captain Ashley Young amid Inter Milan interest

Former Manchester United defender John O'Shea believes it would be a blow for the club if they were to lose Ashley Young to Inter Milan.

The MEN understands that Inter Milan are keen to sign the 34-year-old in the January transfer window.

Young is out of contract in the summer at Old Trafford and could sign a pre-contract agreement with Inter for when his contract expires.

However, it's understood that Inter want to sign Young this window, which would allow United to gain a fee for former England international.

Following Manchester United's 3-1 Carabao Cup defeat to Manchester City, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: "We can't weaken ourselves, we need to strengthen ourselves if any movement is going to happen," when asked about Young, who was omitted from Tuesday's squad.

Antonio Conte wanted to sign Young for Chelsea in 2017, however, a deal never materialised, but the pair could be reunited this month.

However, former United full-back O'Shea believes it would be a big blow for United if he was to depart Old Trafford this month.

"I think it would be a blow, in terms of experience-wise for United to lose him," he told The Debate.

"With the performances of young Williams, I think United might be thinking if they can get a bit of transfer fee for him.

"Ashley (Young) is probably thinking if he can go and work with Conte out at Inter Milan it could be a good end to his career."
