John McGinn 'targeted' by Liverpool as Aston Villa midfielder presents solution to Gini Wijnaldum void

Scotland midfielder John McGinn is a summer transfer target for Liverpool, according to a report.

The Aston Villa star has turned out to be a bargain buy for Dean Smith's side since arriving for £2.5m from Hibs in 2018, scoring the goal that would take them into the English Premier League in the play-off final before regularly impressing in the top flight.

He has also become a key player for Steve Clarke's national side and is currently starring at Euro 2020.

That rise has transfer chiefs at Jurgen Klopp's Reds excited, according to the Sunday Post, and they are said to be keen on a move.

Liverpool are seeking a replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum, the Dutch star who signed for Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer earlier this month.

It's claimed Villa would demand a fee of £20m at a minimum.

But that price tag is unlikely to scare off those at Liverpool who continue to reap the rewards of taking an £8m punt on another Scottish star, left-back Andy Robertson.
