John McGinn has signed a new five-year deal at Aston Villa a year to the day since signing from Hibs,
The Scotland midfielder enjoyed a sensational first season at the Birmingham club, which culminated in him heading he winning goal in the play-off final at Wembley back in May, securing promotion to the Premier League for this season.
Negotiations had been ongoing throughout the summer amidst speculation linking him with £50m move to Manchester United.
His future will be at Villa Park though, unless someone come sin with serious cash.
Hibs benefited financially from Villa’s promotion in the summer, and stand to land an even bigger windfall should any interest result in a transfer for McGinn in the future thanks to a sell-on clause.
Villa chief executive Christian Purslow said: “We are delighted to secure John’s services for the long term at Aston Villa.
“He is the type of player (head coach) Dean Smith and our ownership group want to build our Club around: young, determined, athletic, technically-gifted and passionate about winning.”
McGinn added: “I have loved every minute of my time at Villa and I am delighted to commit myself to the club for the long term.”
