John McGinn on his undying love for Celtic a year on from transfer saga

John McGinn insists Celtic is in his blood and won't ever leave him a year on from missing out on a move to his boyhood heroes.

The Scotland international looked all set to make a move from Hibs to Parkhead last summer only for a deal to fall apart with the two clubs failing to agree on a fee.

McGinn eventually moved south of the border to Aston Villa in a £2.75million deal and never looked back as he helped the Birmingham club back into the top flight, scooping players' and fans' player-of-the-year awards on the way.

It got even better on Saturday when the 24-year-old got his Premier League career off to a goalscoring start as he burst from his own half to provide the finishing touch and give Villa the lead at Tottenham.

Spurs eventually ran out 3-1 winners but McGinn took plenty of plaudits from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

And, speaking to Jim White on talkSPORT, McGinn has revealed how he is thriving in the Premier League pressure pot - and how he will never lose his love for Celtic.

He said: "I'm still a Celtic supporter, I was watching the game at the weekend, and I always will be.

"It will never leave you.

"But I have to focus on doing my best for Aston Villa and whatever comes up in the future we will take it from there.

"I am still a Celtic supporter and the boys here know I harp on about it all the time but I'm fully focused on Villa."

Asked how the Villa support compares with the Celtic support, McGinn played it coy and responded: "That's too hard a question."

McGinn also claimed that Hibs provided him with the perfect preparation for moving to the biggest league in the world.

Despite the Villa home support averaging almost three times that of the Leith club, the midfielder insists the pressure is on a level.

"Hibs are on a different scale to Aston Villa but the demands were still the same," he said. "When you got beat it was like the world was ending.

"Being a Celtic supporter it's the same thing. If you lose one game. So hopefully that feeling doesn't come around too often."

McGinn revealed how he spoke to Kieran Tierney at the weekend to wish him all the best following his record breaking move from Celtic to Arsenal.

And he told Gunners supporters to expect a player who will run through a brick wall.

"I wished him all the best, he is a brilliant player and the Arsenal fans will see that pretty soon," he said.

"He has got everything and when he's back fit they will realise he will run through a brick wall for them. Not only that he can get up and down the pitch and provide assists and is a really humble guy as well."
