John McGinn injury update after Aston Villa reveal Leon Bailey will miss Manchester United game

Aston Villa have been handed a timely selection boost for their Premier League clash at Old Trafford - with John McGinn set to feature.

A week on from being taken off as a concussion substitute, the Scotland playmaker will be fit to play Manchester United after his teammate Leon Bailey was ruled out.

That means it has been a bittersweet build-up on the team news front for Villa.

Following a sixth-minute clash of heads with Everton defender Michael Keane, McGinn played on for a large chunk of the first half against the Toffees - but he was eventually replaced after telling Dean Smith and his backroom staff that he felt dizzy during the game.

Speaking at the time, Smith said: "He felt he was okay to continue. Around about the 26th-minute mark, he got another whack on the head I think it was.

"There was a break in play and he came to alert us to it. Our doctor kept an eye on him, but he called it then and said; 'No, I'm too dizzy' and went down. Our doctor was on it."

McGinn was assessed by Villa's club doctors at the time of the incident and determined he was fit to stay on the pitch until a final check was made, which ultimately resulted in his substitution.

Naturally, the 38-cap international was missing for the midweek Carabao Cup tie against Chelsea.

However, as per the 'return to play' protocol that is governed to the Premier League by the FA, McGinn has now fulfilled his obligations and will be available for selection at Old Trafford.

It's the first time Villa will head to the venue since cashing in on £100million man Jack Grealish.

Following that high-profile sale to Manchester City, the Midlands club re-invested by signing Emi Buendia, Bailey and Danny Ings this summer - but Jamaican forward Bailey will miss out against United with a thigh issue that will keep him side-lined until late October.
