John McGinn injury latest as Steve Clarke refuses to give up on Aston Villa star for Euro 2020 playoffs

Steve Clarke is refusing to give-up on John McGinn for Scotland’s Euro 2020 play-off against Israel.

The national boss was dealt a hammer blow after the Aston Villa ace was diagnosed with a fractured ankle.

McGinn sustained the injury during his side’s weekend loss to Southampton and could face up to three months on the sidelines.

Such a timescale would put him out of the Hampden clash against the Israelis in March and the potential Final against either Norway or Serbia.

However, Record Sport understands Scotland chiefs are still hopeful McGinn could make it back in time due to the fact the injury’s a fracture and not ligament damage.

Clarke said: “I feel for John and obviously all of us at the Scotland national team wish him a speedy recovery.

“The most important thing now is he follows the club’s rehabilitation programme and we will see how he is come the end of March.”
