John McGinn in cheeky Nicola Sturgeon fan return call as Scotland star issues 'best behaviour' plea

Scotland scorer John McGinn has urged fans to be on their best behaviour to ensure 'Mrs Sturgeon' allows fans back into Hampden for Euro 2020.

The Aston Villa midfielder netted two goals against the Faroe Islands in World Cup qualification, but attention now turns to the tournament football for the national side.

Scotland take on the Czech Republic and Croatia at Hampden at next summer's tournament but fans have been locked out of stadiums around the country amid Covid restrictions.

However, with the countdown to finals on McGinn hopes Nicola Sturgeon and the Scottish Government will green light a fan return - if supporters can help keep numbers down.

He told Sky Sports when asked if focus had turned to the major finals during the World Cup qualifier triple-header: "It's been hard, it's been playing on our minds.

"The manager told us to forget about it and think about these three games, but it's been a long time coming for everyone in the country.

"It's now time to get excited.

"We're going to do our best, us as players, to try and focus on keeping fit and playing well.

"It's the supporters job and everyone in Scotland to be on their best behaviour and hopefully Mrs Sturgeon can allow a few fans in here in the summer."

McGinn was speaking after two clinical finishes against the Faroes in the 4-0 rout.

Steve Clarke 's side are set to meet their great rivals England at Wembley on Friday, June 18, 2021.
