John McGinn in Aston Villa Covid blow as Scotland fans face anxious wait

Steve Clarke faces a nervous wait to discover if they'll still see John McGinn turn out for their crucial World Cup triple header.

The playmaker is a key cog in Steve Clarke 's midfield, with Scotland facing crucial trips to play Denmark and Austria as well as a home clash against Moldova in the impending international break.

However, Aston Villa announced on Twitter ahead of their Premier League game with Brentford due to Covid issues.

A brief statement ahead of kick-off read: "Captain Tyrone Mings misses today’s clash against Brentford due to injury. John McGinn and Jacob Ramsey are currently following government guidelines with regards to Covid-19."

Villa didn't disclose any more details but it makes McGinn is a doubt for the crucial run in.

Clarke's squad are expected to report for duty on Sunday evening, casting doubt on McGinn's involvement if he has to self-isolate over the coming days.

Scotland are currently second in Group F, four points behind Denmark, with the next three games likely to have a big impact on their chances of qualifying for Qatar 2022

.

The will already fly out without Scott McTominay, and Clarke will hope for an injury update regarding Kieran Tierney after he looked to have taken a knock in Arsenal's defeat to Manchester City.
