John McGinn backs Kevin Nisbet after Hibs form as Scotland man makes 'Deliveroo and Tennent's' admission

John McGinn missed Scotland’s 2-0 defeat to Denmark in midweek after a positive Covid test forced him to self isolate.

And he’s just glad it happened now that he eats like a professional athlete.

The former Hibs midfielder is set to return for tomorrow night’s Hampden qualifier against Moldova after pounding the treadmill over the last week or so in a bid to keep himself fit while being unable to train.

He managed to keep himself occupied and his diet as it should be, which he admits might not have been the case before.

"Maybe three or four years ago I would have been Deliveroo every night & maybe ordered a wee can of Tennent's at the same time!” He said.

“But you just can’t do that these days, especially when you’ve worked so hard over the summer to try to get in good nick.

“You just can’t afford it or you’ll get left behind.

“I’ve managed to do what I can. I wasn’t ideal, running on the treadmill but it’s what you need to do.

“It’s a reminder to everyone these days that the virus is still there and we still need to prepare and protect ourselves.

“It’s got me. Thankful I had no symptoms and felt fine but it’s a reminder of what we’re living through. Hopefully it’s the last time for a while that I have to isolate for ten days.”

McGinn is hoping to recapture the international form that saw him score six in six back in 2019.

He admits that nowhere near enough chances were created in Copenhagen in midweek, but is confident they’ll come in Glasgow and that he and the in-form strikers are more than capable of putting them away.

Kevin Nisbet also stayed at home in midweek, but McGinn is backing him to add to his solitary Scotland goal if he gets the opportunity this weekend.

He added: “We didn't create enough chances in the game the other night but tomorrow night we’ll get chances and it’s up to players like myself and the strikers, who are all in good form for their clubs - Nizzy [Kevin Nisbet], Che [Adams] and Lyndon [Dykes] especially for QPR.

“So there’s goals in there, it’s just about us being clinical. Hopefully I can have another flurry as well.
