John McAreavey and wife Tara expecting second child together

John McAreavey has announced that he and his wife Tara are expecting their second child together.

Taking to social media, John shared some beautiful snaps of his birthday celebrations with his family at their home in Tullylish, Co Down, over the weekend.

Sharing the images of himself and a stunning Tara in a red dress, John wrote: "Lovely birthday weekend with @tara_mcareavey, James and bump".

The couple will welcome their second child later this year, who will be a younger sibling to their son, James, who will turn two in October.

Tara and John will celebrate their sixth wedding anniversary next month after the pair first met on a night out in Galway in 2012 after a football match in honour of his late wife, Michaela.

While John said the spark between himself and Tara was instant, she was the first woman he had spoken to since his wife's death, and he says that it was "completely innocent" at first.

Recalling the exact date of their first meeting, John said: "It was a Saturday night, November 10, 2012."

John and Tara got engaged in October 2015 and tied the knot in September 2016 in County Kildare.

Entrepreneur John, who owns sweet company Hey Candy , admitted the tragic murder of his first wife Michaela on their honeymoon in Mauritius has caused him to fear Tara will be taken from him too, reports RSVP.

John said: "No girl dreams about getting married to a young man who has been married before and whose wife has been tragically murdered.

"She's fiercely protective of me. All she ever wants to know is that I'm okay.

"It has been a journey that the two of us have had to travel over the past number of years, but we're very comfortable with each other, and we're very secure in each other.

"I guess we gave ourselves that bit of a bubble. We're a very close group of family and friends, and really, that's all that matters."
