John McAreavey and his wife Tara Brennan expecting first child together

John McAreavey and his wife Tara Brennan are expecting a baby together.

The couple will become parents for the first time after tying the knot back in 2016

The good news comes after they enjoyed a a trip to the picturesque county of Donegal over the weekend.

Standing beside his stunning wife,  John said: "Great few days exploring Donegal with Tara and bump!"

John and  Tara met after his first wife  Michaela Harte was murdered in their hotel room while on honeymoon in Mauritius.

They got engaged back in October 2015 before tying the knot in a private wedding in front of friends and family less than 12 months later.

Following the big day, the GAA fan admitted that Tara changed his life forever and she was a special person - RSVP Live reports.

"Tara, she came into my life when you just didn’t know that was going to be a possibility.

"To be able to be at a stage where I am now is a wonderful thing.

"I don’t know if I could have done what Tara has done. I come with a lot of baggage, I suppose, but she’s an incredibly special person and to be married to her now is something that fills me with pride and that I’m so happy about," he told the Irish Independent at the time.

John also confessed that helping people in the wake of his grief has given him motivation to carry on in life.

He said: "It’s energy-sapping, but I’m always reminded of how I felt at a certain stage.

“I can remember the way I felt about things, and I can remember being in a really dark place, and if I could impact somebody, share some of my experience, say, ‘You know what, it might be like that now, but it won’t always be like that’, who am I to not share that message? "I almost feel a responsibility to share that.

"People talk to you afterwards, they send you letters and messages and you see that people are struggling with things. In my case it was a very complicated thing, a very traumatic thing, but everybody’s going to have challenges.

"Somebody sharing their own experience gives other people a bit of hope that they’ll be able to pull through. That would be my motivation.”
