John Mayer appears to have responded to criticism from Taylor Swift’s fans on TikTok.
The “Your Body is a Wonderland” singer joined the social media platform on Monday (1 March).
His second post saw the singer share footage of himself feigning an imagined conversation with someone who will not let him speak. The caption read: “POV: You’re berating me and I’m hearing you out.”
The video appears to be a direct reference to comments that had been left on his first post, which was shared only hours prior.
His first post, in which Mayer is seen getting to grips with the new app, saw fans leave numerous comments condemning the 43-year-old for his past relationship with Swift.
Swift and Mayer were rumoured to have begun a year-long relationship in 2009.
Many of Swift’s fans have interpreted her song “Dear John” to be a critical account of their relationship.
On the track, which features on her 2010 album Speak Now, Swift sings: “Dear John, I see it all now that you’re gone / Don’t you think I was too young to be messed with?”

The current backlash against Mayer by Swift’s fans was initially sparked by his remarks about the Framing Britney Spears documentary.
Speaking to Andy Cohen on SiriusXM, the singer claimed he “almost cried five times” while watching the much-discussed documentary Framing Britney Spears, which looks at how the pop performer was badly mistreated by the media throughout her life and career.
“To go through this and come out the other side OK is to have infinite grace for those who struggle with it,” added. “I came out OK ... I have a very strong feeling that part of that is because I'm a man. And I have a very strong feeling that a lot of these things that happen to female performers is endemic to being female.”
However, Mayer was then accused of hypocrisy due to the way he had spoken to the press about his famous exes.
Many of the critical comments left on Mayer’s TikTok post featured lyrics from Swift’s song.
One user wrote: “We will never forget what you did to our girl Taylor.” Another added: “I knew exactly what was coming when I opened the comments hello swifties.”
Mayer’s new post addressing his critics, however, seems to have only attracted more disapproval from Swift’s fans who have spoofed the video in their own posts.
