John Malkovich film due for release in 2115 to be displayed at Cannes

May 05--Some Cannes Film Festival attendees will be able to get a glimpse at a John Malkovich film scheduled to be released in about 100 years.

"100 Years -- The Movie You Will Never See," directed by Robert Rodriguez, envisions Earth 100 years from now. The movie is set to premiere Nov. 18, 2115.

The film will be showcased in a special safe -- but not watched -- at the invitation-only Louis XIII Suite members club at Hotel Le Majestic Barriere Cannes in France. The film was inspired by the patience it takes to create a decanter of Louis XIII cognac.

"We wanted a safe box that can be opened like never before: with nothing else but time. Once the door is shut, the countdown begins and there is no way of opening it until the 100-year countdown is complete on Nov. 18, 2115," Louis XIII Executive Director Ludovic du Plessis said in a statement Tuesday.

The Cannes Film Festival is scheduled to run May 11-22.

Malkovich, an Illinois native and Steppenwolf Theatre ensemble member, also stars in "Deepwater Horizon." The movie, based on the 2010 BP Deepwater Horizon rig explosion and oil spill, is due out Sept. 30.
