John Lundstram transfer latest as Rangers 'waiting in the wings' for Sheffield United midfielder

Rangers are reportedly "waiting in the wings" to snap up John Lundstram on a free transfer from Sheffield United.

Lundstram has decided against signing any new deal at the Blades and has entered the final six months of his contract, but is still a regular under Chris Wilder.

The Athletic report Lundstram is being targeted by several Premier League clubs but Rangers hope to lure him to Glasgow on a pre-contract deal.

With clubs in England also said to be looking to secure his signature he would demand a wage of around £40,000 a week.

The 26-year-old has been heavily linked with a move north of the border with Steven Gerrard an admirer of the midfielder.

If Rangers want to snap up Lundstram this month with United placing a huge £4million price tag on his head, however the Premier League strugglers are said to be "dropping their valuation all the time" amid fears he will leave Bramall Lane for a free transfer switch in the summer.

The midfielder has started nine of the 16 league games so far and played in another three as they fight for survival, but has been suspended since his dismissal at Brighton just before Christmas.

Sheffield United boss Wilder last month admitted they would be open to offers, claiming: "There's been no enquiries for John

"If someone comes in we have to assess that because they will have to come in with a fee and we will have to assess whether it's worth doing that or not."
