John Lundstram signed for Rangers after rejecting lucrative new deal at Sheffield United

New Rangers signing John Lundstram has revealed he turned down a lucrative offer to stay at Sheffield United.

The English midfielder signed on at Ibrox earlier this week following the expiration of his Blades contract, putting pen-to-paper on a three-year deal with Steven Gerrard 's side, after four successful years at Bramall Lane.

And the 27-year-old has explained just how keen the United hierarchy were to keep him for their bid to bounce back from Premier League relegation at the first attempt.

The Sheffield Star are reporting that a source close to negotiations claims the money-spinning proposal rejected by Lundstram and his advisors would have “put him among the top four or five biggest earners" at the South Yorkshire club.

Lundstram quickly established himself as a fan favourite among Sheffield United fans after joining from Oxford United in a £700,000 deal in 2017 and played a key role in their promotion to the Premier League and a ninth place finish in the English top-flight.

The former Everton youth player will wear the No.4 jersey for the Gers next season as Gerrard and his newly-crowned Premiership champions take a crack at reaching the Champions League group stages for the first time since 2008.
