John Lundstram Rangers transfer a 'no brainer' as ex-Sheffield United man tipped to tear it up

John Lundstram would “tear up” the Scottish league if he signs for Rangers.

That’s according to former teammate Paddy Kenny, who has tipped the ex-Sheffield United man to be a roaring success if he makes the switch north of the border.

Lundstram has left Bramall Lane under freedom of contract and has long been linked with a move to Ibrox, with Steven Gerrard understood to be an admirer.

However, the Gers are likely to face stiff competition from England to secure his signature.

But Kenny insists signing Lundstram would be a no-brainer for the champions as he outlines what the 27-year-old would add.

“I don’t see why he couldn’t have success in Scotland,” he told Football Insider.

“The back end of his Sheffield United career has not been what he wanted.

“It ended with relegation and when you’re not wanting a new contract then the fans will turn on you, so it’s been a difficult period this last six months or so.

“But it would be a fresh start for him and I’m sure he’d have no problem tearing up the Scottish league with Rangers.

“He’s a box-to-box midfielder, a big, strong lad. He’s got a lot of energy too, similar to Gerrard in a way. On a free, it’s a no-brainer.”

However Kenny wouldn’t be the first to underestimate how tough players can find it moving from the top flight in England.

The intensity required for the Scottish Premiership isn’t widely appreciated outside of Scotland and bigger names than Lundstram have found that out to their cost.

Roy Keane admitted he knew it was time to retire when he couldn’t keep up with his younger Hibs opponents when Celtic went to Easter Road.

And Joey Barton’s much heralded arrival at Ibrox was ended prematurely with the former Man City midfielder failing to make the desired impact despite talking himself up beforehand.
