John Lundstram has vowed Rangers fans will see a “different team” soon enough after he admitted that Covid had disrupted their pre-season preparations.
Steven Gerrard ’s 40-match unbeaten run in the Scottish Premiership was brought to grinding halt by Dundee United, who ran out 1-0 winners at Tannadice in the lunchtime kick-off.
Jamie Robson’s second half strike gave the hosts a deserved win and condemned the Gers to a second defeat in a week.
Tuesday’s 2-1 defeat to Malmo has left them needing a 2-0 win at Ibrox next week to progress to the Champions League play-off round.
And they failed to move further away from Celtic in the league, with the Hoops back in action at home to Dundee tomorrow.
The club haven’t publicly confirmed any positive Covid tests, but Rangers TV commentator Clive Tyldseley hinted that two players had missed friendlies against Brighton and Real Madrid for that reason.
And despite defeat in Dundee, Lundstram expects the defending champs to start showing their true ability over the next few weeks.
"I think there's a lot more to come from all of us,” he told Sky Sports.
"It's only early doors, we had pre-season not long ago and it hasn't been a great one for everyone.
"There have been a few Covid cases. So I'm sure once we are up to speed you'll see a different team."
