John Lewis suspends click-and-collect services to avoid non-essential travel

John Lewis has said it is suspending its click-and-collect services.

The retailer, which has a store in Nottingham's Victoria Centre, said it is taking action and suspended click-and-collect services based within John Lewis department stores to avoid non-essential travel, while in-home services will be carried out only if “essential” to customers’ wellbeing.

It is understood customers will be able to collect John Lewis orders from Waitrose stores.

When the latest lockdown was announced, the Victoria Centre confirmed John Lewis would continue to offer click-and-collect services. This, it said at the time, would be offered to customers on foot outside their store entrance on the lower mall as well as a drive-in collection service via dedicated bays in the Red Zone Car Park, accessible via Glasshouse Street.

In a statement, the Victoria Centre said Next, Urban Outfitters, Office and CeX would also offer click-and-collect services and food businesses in the mall would remain open for takeaway services.

It comes after parent company Waitrose said it was following other supermarkets by putting marshals at entrances to offer disposable masks and deny entry to anyone refusing to comply with the rules.

Andrew Murphy, executive director of operations at Waitrose parent company, the John Lewis Partnership, said: “By insisting on the wearing of face coverings, over and above the social distancing measures we already have in place, we aim to make our shops even safer for customers.”
