A sneak peek of John Lewis’ Christmas 2019 advert has been posted online, and it hint at this year’s character.
The clip was posted with the caption ‘Meet Edgar’ from a Twitter account named ‘Excitable Edgar’.
Previous years of the iconic ads have seen characters such as Monty the Penguin and Moz the Monster.
The short teaser shows a hand knocking on a wooden door, with the door knocker in the shape of a mysterious creature.
The door then creaks open to show a fire burning inside the chilly home.
Eagle-eyed Twitter users have gone into frenzy over the short snippet, with one saying: “Oh my God John Lewis?!”
Another said: “This better be the John Lewis ad.”
One confused fan said: “What is this? Who is Edgar?”
Other users have turned detective after the clip, with one saying: “I am 100% sure that the new John Lewis Christmas advert with #ExcitableEdgar is going to be shown during the break of the Euro 2020 qualifier match this Thursday and that will be the SOLE reason I’ll be tuning in to the match.”
Another claimed they were ‘99% sure’ that the teaser was the Christmas advert due to ‘the Twitter account being registered to a Gmail address which starts with the letters “JL”’.
The full advert is expected to be released on November 14.
John Lewis are keeping all things a secret when it comes to the ad, saying: “We are lucky enough to enjoy lots of speculation around our TV ads, much of which is inaccurate, and our one rule is to never comment simply because we want to keep the surprise."
