John Lewis launches £8 charity ‘cup for carers’ to thank the NHS

John Lewis and Waitrose have announced that they will donate a further £1.4 million to around 3,000 local charities who are helping those most in need during the coronavirus pandemic.

This brings the total amount of support given by the partnership to local communities – primarily food banks, those supporting the elderly, homeless and those most at risk from Covid-19, to over £2.7 million.

And now, John Lewis has started selling a limited-edition bone china mug to raise funds for the NHS.

The £8 ‘cup for carers’ is dishwasher and microwave safe and was made in Jamestown, West Dunbartonshire, using an illustration from their in-house Design Studio.

One side of the mug has a rainbow with the words ‘Our Heroes’ underneath while on the reverse it simply says ‘Thank You’.

The bone china mug costs £8 and is available online at JohnLewis.com and instore at Waitrose (John Lewis)

All proceeds from sales of the rainbow-themed mug will be donated to NHS Charities Together to help fund charity work.

The rainbow has become the symbol of support for NHS workers and first appeared in windows across the UK during lockdown when children started drawing them to show how much they cared for NHS and other key workers.

The mug is available to buy online at johnlewis.com and from Waitrose branches across the country.
