John Lewis Christmas advert clues appear across UK as crashed spaceships spotted

The John Lewis Christmas advert has become an eagerly anticipated staple of the festive season, and the retailer has been leaving clues across the UK about this year's theme.

Over the past decade, Christmas shoppers have fallen in love with memorable characters from the department store's winter campaigns, including Monty the Penguin, Buster the Boxer and Moz the Monster.

Last year's advert was a celebration little acts of kindness, a particularly poignant theme in the midst of the 2020 coronavirus pandemic.

The animated ad was a departure from the blockbuster efforts of previous years, instead including a series of short stories, all depicting random acts of kindness and released to mark National Kindness Day.

The 2020 advert was soundtracked by the song A Little Love, written and performed by Brit Award singer Celeste.

John Lewis has sparked curiosity across the country over the past few days as spaceships have appeared in a number of cities, as reported by Chronicle Live.

The eye-catching vehicles feature a plaque with Thursday's date on, which has led to theories that the ad will be released tomorrow.

They also feature the hashtag #unexpected guest.

In previous years, customers have tried to work out the theme of John Lewis advert based on what is on sale in store and, it just so happens, that there has been a sudden influx of space themed items in the retailer's shops and online.

Items available online include space themed bedding, a Santa in a spaceship Christmas tree bauble and a stardust lamp.

Tweeting a selection of their new space themed items, John Lewis wrote: "Thinking of ways to change up your space?" to which one follower replied with their picture of one of the spaceships, adding: "Can't wait until tomorrow!"
