John Lewis Christmas advert 2022: Where to buy the skateboard and merchandise

The much-anticipated John Lewis Christmas advert for 2022 has finally landed.

For those wanting to buy products from the 90-second ad, we have some good news. The range of merchandise featured in the festive campaign, entitled "The Beginner, is available to buy on the John Lewis website - and we've listed the best bits below.

The new advert focuses on raising awareness of children in care, featuring a middle-aged man (played by John-Paul Hurley) who is preparing for the arrival of his new foster daughter by trying to learn skateboarding.

Viewers are left wondering why the man is practicing his skateboarding until the last scene when a social worker arrives with young teenager Ellie. The clip, which is set to a cover of Blink 182’s All The Small Things by Mike Gier, features a number of gift-worthy pieces of merchandise - including the skateboard.

John Lewis shoppers can currently pick up the products shown in the ad, including the £30 'Jolly' Lewis bear' and £17 'Lewis Bear pyjamas'.

Also included in the merch is a £5 'Lewis Bear face bauble' and the 'SkateHut Rampage Skateboard' for £34.99.

This year, John Lewis is donating 25% of the sales of its Christmas advert merchandise to its partner charities Action for Children and Who Cares? Scotland.

Customers will also be able to donate money to the charities via "Giving Trees" in-store by taking a tag from the tree with a value of between £5 and £50 and scanning it in their shop.

The new John Lewis ad follows the launch of the retailer's “Building Happier Futures” programme, which is dedicated to aiding young people with experience in the care system.

As the cost of living crisis continues to bite hard, the festive campaign reflects more on a message of kindness rather then buying things.

Speaking to the Mirror, Rosie Hanley, John Lewis’ Head of Brand and Marketing said: “No big special effects, no snow machines.”

“We were very thoughtful about making sure that the cost of this production was very suitable to the environment that we’re in.”
