John Lewis Christmas advert 2016: Could Bounce the dog, and bouncing, be the stars of the new ad?

A teaser for John Lewis eagerly awaited Christmas advert might have already been posted online as fans count the days before its official “premiere”.

John Lewis Christmas advert is expected to appear on our screen this Friday

However, a 10 second trailer, which has all the makings of a Christmas ad, was posted by a mysterious Twitter account called @bouncing2016 and is thought to be a teaser for the department store’s advert.

The account hasn’t posted any other content but already has 587 followers at time of writing.

The short video is of a dog watching a girl bounce around on a red space space hopper in their snow covered garden.

It uses the hashtag #BounceBounce in a similar font to that used in the retailer’s previous Christmas adverts, as well as the same cinematic look and slowed-down music

An independent staff member identified the track purely from the intro piano chords, the 1980 song having been popularised in the 2001 Baz Luhrmann musical Moulin Rouge, in which it was sung by Nicole Kidman, you can compare the two yourself here

John Lewis has not yet confirmed if the ad is genuine but the release follows of the teaser follows a pattern 

Last year, John Lewis aired a 10-second teaser for the advert during a break in The X Factor on the Sunday night,  before the full advert was posted on YouTube on Friday the following week.

Marketing executives at the department store have promised that 2016's advert will be more cheerful than last year's Man on the Moon.

Rachel Swift, head of brand marketing at John Lewis, said: "We still had a great response for Man on the Moon, but there were a few murmurings about it being a bit sad and did it touch people in slightly the wrong way? So we’ve been really thinking about that."

On Sunday, an A Level student has already fooled the internet into thinking his video of a lonely snowman was this year's John Lewis offering.

The student, Nick, said he produced the video to go with an essay on how successful John Lewis' marketing campaign has become.

Companies – led by the big name retailers and supermarkets – will spend a record £5.6 billion on Christmas advertising this year.
