John Lewis changes dragon toy's name after accidentally calling it female body part

John Lewis has scrambled to change the name of a cuddly toy dragon on its website after it was pointed out that the word is unintentionally rather rude.

The high-end store was advertising the Jellycat Fud Dragon Soft Toy for £21 on its website.

But the name 'Fud' drew laughter from Scottish shoppers after the advert was shared online, according to the Daily Record.

In Scottish slang, the word 'fud' is used to mean a foolish person, or more often as a reference to female genitalia.

John Lewis had advertised the green toy saying: "He may breathe fire, but Jellycat's Fud the Dragon is nothing but friendly.

"Soft and fluffy, with adorable little wings, this cuddly chap will sit by your side and give cuddles aplenty."

But eagle eyed Twitter user @Melisandreilidh shared a picture of the advert online, adding: "Tell me you don't have a Scottish person on your development team without telling me you don't have a Scottish person on your development team."

The post received nearly 200 shares and over 1,600 likes.

@NotTimorous said: There's a Glaswegian working in the Marketing Department of a global business cackling their a*** off."

A spokeswoman for John Lewis said: "To save his blushes, we're updating our website now and will be giving Fuddle Wuddle his full title in future."

A spokesperson for manufacturer Jellycat added: "Thank you so much for bringing this to our attention.

"This is most certainly a typo which we have brought to John Lewis' attention straight away to be corrected."
