- Jason Tarry, chairman of the John Lewis Partnership (JLP), saw his pay increase by 25 per cent to £1.2m last year, alongside a near-£23,000 bonus.
- This pay rise occurred despite JLP cutting 3,300 jobs during the same period, with the total workforce now at 65,700, down from over 76,000 in 2023.
- JLP stated that Tarry's increased remuneration reflects his combined role as chairman and chief executive, following the departure of Nish Kankiwala.
- After four years without a bonus, JLP paid a 2 per cent bonus to its staff (partners) in March this year, following a 5 per cent rise in annual sales to £13.4bn.
- While Tarry's pay is significant, it is considerably lower than that of other retail chiefs, such as M&S chief executive Stuart Machin, who earned £7.1m.
