John Lewis and Waitrose team up to give NHS staff 50,000 Easter treats

Whilst it seems we’re surrounded by doom and gloom daily, John Lewis and Waitrose are showing their appreciation for NHS stuff during these testing times with a treat for Easter 2020.

They’re supplying 50,000 boxes of Easter confectionery to NHS workers as a small token of their appreciation in the run up to the main event at the weekend.

Around 51 Waitrose shops will be gifting chocolates donated from John Lewis, which includes some delicious truffles and mini Easter eggs to hardworking frontline staff when they visit one of the participating shops from now until Easter weekend.

The Waitrose branches have been chosen due to their proximity to NHS hospitals, with locations in London, Dorset, Hampshire, Northumberland and the West Midlands included. You can check which stores are taking part by visiting waitrose.com.

Peter Cross, Director of Customer Experience at the John Lewis Partnership says: “In these extremely difficult times, we wanted to make a small gesture to those working on the frontline. We hope these gifts will go a little way in helping to express our gratitude and simply brighten up the day a little for the NHS staff who are working tirelessly in really challenging circumstances.”

This isn’t all the Partnership is doing for NHS workers. Waitrose shops are setting aside a proportion of hard-to-find and essential products from every delivery exclusively for NHS staff.

Shopper with an NHS card will be eligible, in a bid to help frontline workers who often do not have flexibility over what time of the day they can visit a supermarket.

NHS staff members are also being given priority checkout service in the retailer's shops to ensure they are able to get through as quickly and easily as possible.

This is being done through dedicated NHS checkouts and opening up new tills for them as needed or moving to the front of the queue.

John Lewis also donated care packs with items such as pillows, phone chargers, eye masks and hand cream to hospitals to make breaks more comfortable.
