Sir Paul McCartney has shared a poignant photo of himself and John Lennon to mark what would have been the Beatles legend's 80th birthday.
Paul took to social media to share a photo of him and John in their younger years as he wished John a happy birthday.
In the black and white photo John and Paul are sat close together poring over words on a page and smiling.
Paul, 78, said he loved the snap because it reminded him of the bond he and John had shared.
He captioned the picture: "I love this picture, it reminds me of the bond between us. Happy 80th John. Love Paul #JohnLennon #LENNON80."
The musician, who was shot dead aged 40 in New York in 1980, has continued to have an enduring influence on popular culture long after his murder.
Following a chance encounter with his future bandmate Paul at a church fete in 1957, he went on to change the course of musical history with a body of work which has stood the test of time.
After helping to propel The Beatles to international stardom and securing their place as one of the world's biggest ever bands, Lennon continued to enjoy a varied career.

Following the band's breakup in 1970, he released his debut solo effort John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band in the same year, which included hits Mother and Working Class Hero.
