John Lennon Airport accepted 15 planes from Manchester Airport after 87 flights were cancelled after a refuelling problem caused travel chaos for thousands of passengers.

Scores of flights were cancelled after a power failure prevented planes from refuelling at Manchester Airport yesterday afternoon, which caused chaos for thousands of passengers.

A spokesman for JLA has now told the ECHO that they accepted 15 flights from Manchester yesterday. Six planes landed to refuel at  JLA before heading on to their eventual destination.

And nine flights which were bound for Manchester landed in Liverpool instead of Manchester.  JLA staff then organised onward travel for the passengers.

Security staff and ground crews all worked longer shifts than normal at JLA due to the problems at Manchester.

Engineers have now resolved the power issue at Manchester Airport.
