John Legend has revealed that his and Chrissy Teigen’s three-year-old daughter Luna may not “really believe in Santa” - but plays along for her parents’ sake.

The singer discussed the family’s Christmas plans in an interview with People, where he said: “Luna, she talks about Santa and I don’t know if she really believes in Santa or if she just does it to play along with us.”

“I don't know what's going on yet. I was never raised on Santa as a kid, so I never knew about the way parents keep up the mythology for a while."

According to Legend, despite the toddler possibly already knowing the truth about the presents under the tree, he and Teigen are going to keep the holiday myth going for now.

"So I don’t know how to play this out with Luna, how long we're going to keep the charade going," Legend said. "I feel like she’ll figure it out pretty soon."

According to Legend, who was recently namedPeople's Sexist Man Alive, the things that are actually important about the holidays are “food, and family and music”.

“For us, the holidays are always about food, and family, and music and I feel like all three have been the most important and most memorable parts of our holiday celebrations,” he said. “And we’ll continue with that with my kids and with Chrissy and we often have our family come spend the holidays with us, our extended family.”

As for what presents Luna and her 18-month-old brother Miles Theodore receive on the holiday, Legend said he and Teigen try not to “overly spoil” the children - but like to get them gifts that they “really like”.

“We just try to listen to what they love and what they like and gift them accordingly,” Legend said.

Last year, preliminary data from a study found that the average child in England stops believing in Santa around age eight.
